Our Story
A firm built on
careful listening
Greymantle was founded with the conviction that good legal advice begins not with answers, but with questions — the kind asked patiently and without assumption.

Who We Are
Greymantle began as a small chambers practice in Kuala Lumpur, established by practitioners who had grown weary of law firms that treated clients as case numbers rather than people with real concerns. The name — drawn from the image of something layered and considered — reflects that founding philosophy.
Over time, the firm developed a reputation for handling technically demanding matters with a measured hand: tax structures that require care to unpick, insurance disputes where the policyholder genuinely needs someone in their corner, and maritime matters where local knowledge intersects with international frameworks.
We are not the largest firm in Kuala Lumpur. We have no ambition to be. What we are is a practice where every matter receives sustained attention from people who understand the subject — and who will tell you plainly what they think, rather than what you may wish to hear.
Our Mission
To provide legal counsel that is grounded, honest, and genuinely useful — delivered in a way that respects the client's intelligence and time.
Our Approach
We form views slowly and share them clearly. We don't advise hastily, and we don't frame matters in ways designed to extend engagement. When we reach a conclusion, we explain how.
Our Values
Transparency, measured candour, and genuine concern for the outcome. We behave as we would wish to be treated if the situation were reversed.
Our People
The Team
Three practitioners with distinct specialisations, working as an integrated group on matters that cross practice boundaries.
Rajan Krishnamurthy
Principal & Tax Counsel
Rajan spent fourteen years with the Inland Revenue Board before entering private practice. His knowledge of Malaysian tax administration is detailed and practical, shaped by years spent on both sides of the advisory relationship.
Faridah Yusoff
Insurance & Takaful Disputes
Faridah joined Greymantle from a financial services litigation background. She brings particular familiarity with takaful arrangements alongside conventional insurance disputes, and is known for patient, methodical case preparation.
Lim Wei Sheng
Maritime & Shipping Law
Wei Sheng's practice focuses exclusively on maritime and shipping matters. He advises on vessel arrests, cargo disputes, and charter party issues, drawing on familiarity with both Malaysian statute and key international conventions.
Standards & Conduct
How We Work
The standards that shape how we handle matters, communicate with clients, and maintain the integrity of our practice.
Bar Council Compliance
All practitioners at Greymantle are admitted to the Malaysian Bar and conduct themselves in accordance with the Legal Profession Act 1976 and Bar Council's professional standards.
Strict Confidentiality
Client information is treated as strictly confidential. We do not share details of any matter with third parties unless instructed to do so or required by law.
Thorough Preparation
We do not offer views before reviewing the relevant facts and documents. Every engagement begins with a careful reading of the materials, not an assumption about the likely answer.
Clear Communication
Advice is given in plain language. Where legal terminology is unavoidable, we explain it. You should leave every meeting with a clear sense of where things stand.
Transparent Fee Arrangements
We set out fee arrangements in writing before work commences. Changes in scope are discussed and agreed before they affect what you will be charged.
Data Protection
Personal data is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). We collect only what is necessary and retain it only as long as required.
Legal Expertise in Kuala Lumpur
Greymantle operates from the legal and commercial centre of Malaysia, where the concentration of financial institutions, trading companies, and regulatory bodies makes specialised legal knowledge particularly valuable. The firm's three practice areas — tax, insurance, and maritime law — reflect the practical demands of clients operating within Malaysia's economy.
Malaysian tax law presents genuine complexity for both individuals and corporate entities. The interaction of income tax, real property gains tax, goods and services obligations, and available reliefs and incentives requires careful navigation. Our tax practice addresses these matters with a focus on what the law actually provides, rather than what clients might hope it allows.
Insurance and takaful disputes require patience as much as legal knowledge. Policyholders frequently find themselves navigating dense policy language and insurer processes that are not designed for ease of use. Our approach is to prepare documentation carefully and communicate with insurers in a way that advances the matter rather than prolongs it.
Malaysia's position as a maritime trading nation — with Port Klang among the most active container ports in the region — means that shipping and maritime legal matters arise with regularity. Our maritime counsel addresses the full range of commercial and regulatory issues that arise in this sector, from cargo claims and arrest proceedings to charterparty disputes and port authority matters.
